What the Course Includes
Private lifeguard certification courses meet all requirements for employment at pools, lakes, and many beaches throughout New York State. Each course includes:

- CPR and AED: Adult, Child, and Infant skills included (meets NYS work standards)
- Written and in-water skills exams
- Official 2-year certification card upon passing all requirements
All instructors are certified by state-approved training organizations and follow the standards recognized by the New York State Department of Health.
Course Requirements
To participate, each student must:
Need help evaluating if your students or staff are ready? We offer free pre-screening tips or can provide a short swim test on request.
- Be at least 15 years old by the last day of class
- Be able to swim 300 yards continuously
- Tread water for 2 minutes without hands
- Retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10 feet deep and swim 20 yards with it
- Event companies or pool party staffing businesses
- Complete online modules (if blended format is used)
Pool Requirements for On-Site Training
For private classes to be held at your location, the pool must meet certain minimum safety and space standards:
Minimum depth of at least 7 feet for brick retrieval drills
Pool length of at least 20 yards for swim components
Access to a quiet indoor or shaded outdoor area for classroom and CPR work
Clean water, working filtration, and private or scheduled pool access
If your pool doesn’t meet all criteria, we can host the course at one of our affiliated training locations in Nassau County.
Scheduling & Group Size
We offer flexible scheduling, including:
Weekday or weekend options
Morning, afternoon, or evening sessions
Compressed 2–3 day sessions or multi-week setups
Ideal group size: 4–10 participants
